Research project

Biological aging processes and environmental factors in early life: 9-11 years old

From the start of my phd, I started to set up a new follow-up study. Following up children gives us the opportunity to gain more insights into their development and health. This allows us to look for applications and strategies that protect the health and well-being of (unborn) children from harmful environmental exposures. To investigate whether subclinical health parameters (cardiovascular, cognitive) are already influenced by environmental exposures in early life, a new, second step was initiated within the ENVIRONAGE birth cohort. Children aged 9 years are invited for a next follow-up study to investigate the effect of environmental exposures on the cardiovascular system, bone density, cognition and telomere length in early life.
