Research project

The Flemish exposome project: towards a comprehensive understanding of the life-course impact of dietary and environmental exposure on chronic low-grade gut inflammation. Acronym = FLEXiGUT

FLEXiGUT combines the unique and complementary expertise on dietary- and environment-related human biomarkers and biomonitoring, metabolomics, microbiome research and epidemiology to investigate the complex human exposome. Aim 1: to study the association between exposure to BC particles in pre- and postnatal matrices and the gut microbiome in children. Aim 2: to investigate the relation between air pollution exposure and residential greenness and the gut microbiome. Aim 3: to study the importance of the gut microbiome in early life with regard to markers of biological ageing (telomere length) and its interplay with the exposome.
